This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Deer tend to browse other plants first. It grows rapidly and blooms from early to late summer. It also tolerates salt.
Pairs well with Blue Mouse Ears hosta, Lady fern, and Aureola Japanese forest grass.
