Notes

Rock clematis (Clematis columbiana) is a vine for woodland gardens and low maintenance spots. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Nodding blue to reddish-purple flowers open in spring and summer, and butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees visit them. Deer and rabbits tend to browse other plants first. Fragile, plumed seedheads follow the flowers.

Pairs well with Trumpet honeysuckle, Sundrops, and Snowbrush.
