Notes

'Scarlet Flame' moss phlox (Phlox subulata 'Scarlet Flame') is a perennial for rock gardens, borders, and ground cover. It is hardy to USDA zone 2, or down to -50°F (-46°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or chalky soil. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. It blooms in early to late spring and attracts butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees. The evergreen mat spreads 12 to 24 inches.

Pairs well with Perennial candytuft, Gold dust, and Lamb’s ear.
