Notes
'Shimadaijin' tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa 'Shimadaijin') is a shrub for borders, cottage gardens, and specimen planting. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun. Its purple-magenta flowers have golden stamens and open from early to late spring. The name means Island Minister. Tree peonies are woody, so you do not need to cut them to the ground in fall.
Pairs well with Star magnolia, Mock orange, Cinnamon fern, and Snowdrop.
