Notes

'Spike' bigleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla 'Spike') is a shrub for borders, cut flowers, and containers. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Blue flowers open from early to late summer, and acidic soil keeps them blue. Deer rarely make it their first choice. Keep pets away from it, since it is toxic to them.

Pairs well with Astilbe, Japanese forest grass, Siebold's hosta, and Fringed bleeding heart.
