Notes

Texensis group (Clematis texensis) is a vine for borders, containers, cottage gardens, and rock gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry to moist soil of most types. Bell-shaped red flowers bloom only on new growth, and butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees visit them. Deer and rabbits tend to pass it by. Feathery seed heads follow the flowers.

Pairs well with Green Spice coral bells, Blue fescue, and Wide Brim hosta.
