'Trafford W. Bigger' peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Trafford W. Bigger') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, and perennial beds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and loamy soil. The Japanese type flowers are a dark brown red with small yellow tips on the staminodes. The color holds well in hot sun. Stiff stems about thirty-six inches tall carry dark green foliage.
Pairs well with Rainbow's End hosta, Japanese spirea, Sedge, and Lungwort.
