Notes

'Valentine' sunflower (Helianthus annuus 'Valentine') is an annual for borders, cut flowers, and pollinator gardens. Frost will kill it, so set it out only after the last frost in spring. This plant likes full sun and average to moist soil of most types. Its yellow blooms open from early to late summer and draw butterflies, bees, and birds. It grows fast and stands erect, so give it a spot at the back of the bed. Deer usually look elsewhere for a meal.

Pairs well with First Knight fountain grass, Easy Wave Blue petunia, and Vesuvius nasturtium.
