Notes

'Valley Fire' Japanese pieris (Pieris japonica 'Valley Fire') is a shrub for specimen planting, mass plantings, and informal hedges. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil. New leaves emerge fiery red and slowly turn glossy dark green. Deer rarely make it their first choice. Chains of fragrant white flowers open in early to late spring and attract bees.

Pairs well with Smoketree, Festiva Maxima peony, and Rose of sharon.
