Notes

'Watermelon Red' lagerstroemia (Lagerstroemia indica 'Watermelon Red') is a shrub for specimen planting, hedges, privacy screens, and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It grows fast, forms a dense shape, and is drought tolerant. Deer usually look elsewhere for a meal. Red blooms appear from early to late summer and again in early autumn, and they attract butterflies and bees.

Pairs well with Chaste tree, Little bluestem, and Clary sage.
