Notes

Western blue virginsbower (Clematis occidentalis) is a low maintenance vine for borders and woodland gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to moist soil of most types. Large, purplish-blue, bell-shaped flowers hang along the stalk and give way to silvery, feathery plumes. Deer and rabbits tend to browse other plants first. The vine can climb to 20 ft.

Pairs well with Virginia creeper, White trillium, and Cinnamon fern.
