Notes

'Woodwardii' American arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis 'Woodwardii') is a tree for hedges, privacy screens, foundation plantings, and specimen use. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist soil of most types. It grows slowly into a dense, fragrant evergreen that gives you color all winter. Birds visit it. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything.

Pairs well with Mugo pine, Panicle hydrangea, and Prairie dropseed.
