Notes
'Altona' bigleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla 'Altona') is a shrub for borders, containers, hedges, and cottage gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It grows fast and reaches about 47 to 59 inches tall and wide. It sits low on the menu for deer. Flowers appear from early to late summer, and the plant tolerates salt.
Pairs well with Patriot hosta, Aureola Japanese forest grass, and Fringed bleeding heart.
