Notes

'Amethyst' oakleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia 'Amethyst') is a shrub for borders, specimen plantings, woodland gardens, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy or loamy soil. White blooms age to wine-red and appear in spring and summer. The flowers are fragrant and attract butterflies, bees, and birds. It grows slowly to 5 or 6 feet tall and wide, and the leaves turn color in fall.

Pairs well with Christmas fern, Sedge, New England aster, and American linden.
