Notes

Bleeding heart (Lamprocapnos spectabilis) is a perennial for shade gardens, woodland gardens, cottage gardens, and borders. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to moist soil of most types. It forms a clumping mound with white and pink blooms in spring. Hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees visit the flowers. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits.

Pairs well with Lungwort, Christmas fern, and Annabelle hydrangea.

Native range

Asia and Manchuria.
