Notes

'Burning Heart' oriental poppy (Papaver orientale 'Burning Heart') is a perennial for borders, cut flowers, cottage gardens, and rock gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist soil of most types. It forms a clump 12 to 24 inches tall, blooms in spring and summer, and tolerates drought. Deer and rabbits tend to browse other plants first. Butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, and birds visit it.

Pairs well with Ostfriesland sage, Lady's mantle, Purple Sensation ornamental onion, and Lupine.
