Notes

California foothill pine (Pinus sabiniana) is a tree for low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 8, or down to 10°F (-12°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry soil of most types. Its open crown gives light shade, and you can prune off the bottom branches to make room for plants underneath. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. The foliage is gray-green and lacy.

Pairs well with Blue oak, Yarrow, and Coast live oak.
