Notes

Challenger culver's root (Veronicastrum virginicum 'Challenger') is a perennial for the back of the border, pollinator gardens, and cottage gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist soil. Tall, stiff stems carry slender spikes of small, pale pink flowers in summer. The clumps bulk up over time, and bees visit the blooms. It grows more drought tolerant with age.

Pairs well with Claire de Lune peony, Strawberry Sundae panicle hydrangea, Sedge, and African Queen lily.
