Notes

'Earl of Essex' iris (Iris germanica 'Earl of Essex') is a perennial for borders, cottage gardens, and cut flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to average, sandy or loamy soil. The fragrant, ruffled white flowers have purple petal edges and a pale orange beard. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. Keep it away from pets, since it is toxic to dogs and cats.

Pairs well with Black Beauty peony, Maiden pink, Spanish bluebell, and Blonde Ambition blue grama.
