First Blush hosta

'First Blush' hosta (Hosta 'First Blush') is a perennial for shade borders, woodland gardens, and containers. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade. Breeder Bob Solberg created it as the first burgundy-leaved hosta. New leaves emerge green and quickly turn burgundy, with red stems and a red leaf edge. In cool summers the burgundy lasts into fall, but in hot summers it can fade to green.

Pairs well with Spotted dead nettle, Dog's tooth violet, and Emerald Green arborvitae.
