Notes

'First Mate' hosta (Hosta 'First Mate') is a perennial for shade gardens, borders, containers, and ground cover. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to moist, loamy or clay soil. Deer and rabbits tend to pass it by. It spreads 12 to 24 inches, so give it room to fill in. Bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds visit the blooms, and they carry a light fragrance.

Pairs well with Aureola Japanese forest grass, Astilbe, and Bigleaf hydrangea.
