Notes

'Gingerbread' Japanese witch hazel (Hamamelis intermedia 'Gingerbread') is a shrub for borders, hedges, and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Its fragrant dark orange flowers open in winter and early spring. Deer rarely make it their first choice. The leaves also turn a fall color before they drop.

Pairs well with Lenten rose, Common snowdrop, Snow crocus, and Ivy-leaved cyclamen.
