Notes

'Hortmaja' bigleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla 'Hortmaja') is a shrub for cut flowers, hedges, accents, and shade gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and average to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. It grows fast and reaches up to 48 inches tall and wide. The blooms open soft lime green in early to late summer, then age to deep green with bright red tips.

Pairs well with Blue Mouse Ears hosta, Autumn fern, Aureola Japanese forest grass, and Green Velvet buxus.
