Notes

Italian stone pine (Pinus pinea) is a tree for low maintenance landscapes, food gardens, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 8, or down to 10°F (-12°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or chalky soil. Its gray and green needles stay on the tree all year, and birds visit it. It is drought tolerant and salt tolerant. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything.

Pairs well with Chinese pistache, Stonecrop, and Mondo grass.
