Notes

'John Dix' ornamental onion (Allium 'John Dix') is a bulb for borders, pollinator gardens, and containers. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun, average moisture, and sandy or loamy soil. The fragrant mauve flowers are paler toward the center and sit on stems about 100 cm tall. Bees and butterflies visit the blooms. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything.

Pairs well with Karl Rosenfield peony, Blue Angel hosta, and Prairie dropseed.
