Notes

'Purple Rain' ornamental onion (Allium 'Purple Rain') is a bulb for borders, containers, and rock gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to average, sandy, loamy, or chalky soil. It makes semi-open spheres of grape purple, star-like florets on stems 3 feet high, and bees and butterflies visit the fragrant blooms. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. Fa. A. Langedijk bred it.

Pairs well with Blue fescue, Duchesse de Nemours peony, and Ice plant.
