'Maartjes Merlot' sanguisorba (Sanguisorba 'Maartjes Merlot') is a perennial with wine-red bottlebrush flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil. Slender stems can reach 60 inches, and bees visit the blooms. Rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. Its see-through look lets you plant it nearer the front of the border.
Pairs well with Cytherea peony, Dalmatian bellflower, and Polish Spirit clematis.
