Notes

'Purpurea' Japanese honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica 'Purpurea') is a vine for borders and ground cover. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to wet soil of most types. It climbs at a rapid rate, so give it room, and its fragrant flowers draw butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, and birds. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits. The leaves stay evergreen.

Pairs well with Weigela, Nepeta, and River birch.
