Notes

Silky wormwood (Artemisia frigida) is a perennial for borders, containers, and ground cover. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or chalky soil. The gray-green leaves are finely cut, soft, and fragrant, and small yellow flowers appear in summer. Shear the flower stems back to the basal foliage to keep the plant in its prime. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything.

Pairs well with Maiden pink, Heath aster, Canada wild rye, and Common juniper.

Native range

Asia, eastern Europe, and North America.
