Notes

'Hines Darkleaf' Indian-hawthorn (Rhaphiolepis indica 'Hines Darkleaf') is a shrub for hedges, foundation plantings, privacy screens, and containers. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It grows fast into a dense, evergreen mound, and fragrant pink flowers open in early to late spring to attract bees and birds. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything.

Pairs well with Sasanqua camellia, Mondo grass, and Carolina jessamine.
