Notes
'Ostara' ornamental onion (Allium 'Ostara') is a bulb for borders, containers, rock gardens, and pollinator gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or chalky soil. Large, deep reddish purple spheres rise on 16 inch stems, and the broad, mid-green leaves stay green through flowering. It sits low on the menu for deer. Bees and butterflies visit the fragrant blooms.
Pairs well with Cytherea peony, Empress Wu hosta, Blonde Ambition blue grama, and Little Beauty tulip.
