Notes

Kahili ginger (Hedychium gardnerianum) is a bulb for borders, containers, pollinator gardens, and accents. It is hardy to USDA zone 8, or down to 10°F (-12°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil of most types. Its yellow flowers have fiery red stamens and a light fragrance. They draw butterflies, hummingbirds, and birds. New stems emerge late, often in June, so be patient in spring.

Pairs well with Calla lily, Lemongrass, Totally Tangerine dahlia, and Thalia.

Native range

Bhutan, Darjeeling, and Sikkim.
