Notes

'Knap Hill Scarlet' Japanese quince (Chaenomeles superba 'Knap Hill Scarlet') is a shrub for borders, hedges, and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil of most types. It blooms in early to late spring, and the fragrant flowers draw bees and birds. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. It also tolerates drought once settled in.

Pairs well with Lenten rose, First Knight fountain grass, and Armenian grape hyacinth.
