Notes

'Texas Scarlet' Japanese quince (Chaenomeles superba 'Texas Scarlet') is a shrub for borders, hedges, and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil of most types. Fragrant watermelon red flowers open in early to late spring and attract bees and birds. Deer and rabbits tend to pass it by. The plant is also drought tolerant.

Pairs well with Lenten rose, Armenian grape hyacinth, and First Knight fountain grass.
